This year at Art Basel Miami Beach, we will participate in the Nova sector with a solo presentation of Emmanuel Van der Auwera.
This presentation brings together recent works by Van der Auwera at a pivotal career moment, ahead of four upcoming solo museum exhibitions in Belgium and in the United States. At the center is VideoSculpture XXXII (January 6th), a large-scale installation composed of thirty modified screens; their polarizing filters are partially removed, forming a fractured field, where the fragile mechanics of digital vision are left exposed. Hundreds of videos flit across the shredded surface, all of them filmed by the crowd inside of the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Pulling from a decade of investigation into traditional, social, and generative media, the presentation investigates how images circulate and transform into emotional currency.
