This tower-like shelving object sits between functional furniture and architectural element, taking its cue from “façadism,” the practice of preserving a building’s exterior while rebuilding what lies behind it. Common in Brussels, this approach is both a pragmatic compromise between preservation and progress and an ideological statement, and it echoes a society increasingly shaped by virtual façades and constructed identities. Translated into furniture, the façade becomes a deliberate misrepresentation: from the front the piece appears solid and enclosed, while from the side its open, modular structure reveals its true nature. A frontal panel of raw, brutalist natural stone acts as a visual shield, detached from the logic of the framework it conceals. Built from solid wood with a matte black oil finish, the work stages an encounter between two material states: the living, growing nature of wood against the cold, unyielding nature of stone. In doing so, "façadism" questions the gap between appearance and underlying reality.
